Subject: Minimum aperture question:

Though I've wondered about this for ages, it was brought home to me again
yesterday while shooting with my M6.

Are there some sort of design considerations, unknown to me, that dictate
what the minimum aperture for a given lens shall be? I was shooting with the
35/2.0 and was desireous of the max. dof. Thought to myself how nice it
would have been if it had f22 available instead of the min. f16 allowed on
that lens. I guess there is a limit on how accurately you can make a "small
hole", but the f16 opening seemed as if it could have been reduced by
another stop within the bounds of good mechanical practice.

Also notice that there is another smaller opening beyond the f16 detent. It
is definitely a smaller hole, and is right against the ring's mechanical
stop. Wonder what f stop it is equivilent to?
