M4 cameras are much older than the others. They also probably have some bit of fit and finish that's better than later models. But it's because of esoteric collectable values that the prices have skyrocketed. If you are a user, any M camera will be fine if it fits your needs. M2 if you like 35mm, M3 if you prefer 50 and 90 lenses (prices on them rising too, M3 more than M2), M42 if you want something newer, and priced right, M4P if you want to use 28 and 75 mm lenses. M6 if you need a meter, or want a new camera. The M6 is more than adequate for any user when it comes to reliability or fit and finish or usefulness. -- Eric Welch Grants Pass, OR
