There are the very fine late screw-mount Canon and Nikon lenses which
one can use on a screw-to-M adapter. Both the Canon and Nikon 50/1.4
lenses are excellent, and you can also get fun lenses like the Canon
19/3.5. The Canon 35/1.5, 85/1.8, and 100/2 are all extremely good,
both by reputation and personal experience. The Nikon 35/1.8 and
105/2.5 have very good reputations. All of these lenses are
collectors items and getting more expensive, though still cheaper than
Leica M lenses.
