Subject: Stiff focusing on old lens- cured

Just a comment on something somebody raised a while ago, an old Leica
lens that was very stiff to focus.

I recently found an M Summarit 50/1.4 and it was very nice but the
focusing was a bit stiff, which made it quite hard to use. I just had it
serviced, which included replacing the old, solidifying lubricant in the
focusing mount and also the old (but not noticeably so) lubricant in the
diaphragm. It is now as smooth as silk and probably has another 40 years
of use ahead of it. Or more. So if you have a stiff lens, that's
probably all it needs. The repair man said it had probably never been
serviced before, like a lot of the older stuff he gets to work on.
