I don't know about the 21mm/2.8 Elmarit, but my Canon 19mm/3.5 rf lens (I 
use it on my M6 with a Leica adapter) focuses closer than the rangefinder 
range. A little click tells you whan you hit that point. From then on its 
scall focussing.
