well, a recent email to me, now gone, but possibly posted to the list 
as well, asserts that nowadays E-6 films are thought to have a 50 year
life expectancy (wwith appropriate storage. this is an improvement
over the 50s,and 60s, when the life was much shorter. everyone agrees
that kodachrome (essentially a dyed black and white process, like
technicolor)  has the longest duration of the color processes. all
slides seem to much more durable than  color negative materials by the
way.
