A friend on Compuserve, who has good connections to Leica just posted
this. I'm sure he won't mind.

snip=========

A new Leica lens, the 70-180 APO Elmarit-R, has just been announced! It
consists of 13 Elements ( five of which are APO glass ) & is supposed
to be the quality of the 100mm APO Macro. Really!

snip========

He said it will be in the $6,000 range. That sounds like a problem, but
considering it's going to replace two Leica lenses, or more, it doesn't
sound so bad. I'm going to keep my R7 and 1.4 Apo converter now! And
wait for a doctor to sell it used! <g>
