     Hello Fred,

The battery situation is actually the opposite.

The Leica CL and Leitz/minolta CL both take the PX 625 or PX 13. This
is a mercury cell that was deemed environmentally hazardous by act of
Congress. FYI, the production of this cell has been discontinued in
Japan now, as well as North America. Varta will continue producing
the cell in Europe until the Greens in Germany and France succeed in
legislation (this is old information about Varta-as of six months
     ago-this may have already changed.)

The Minolta CLE used the common alkaline cell PX 76, EPX 76 and LR44.
These are not considered environmentally hazardous.

I dumped my CLs a last year and switched to an M6 because of the
battery availability and because it was a more robust body. Since you
have a Minolta CLE, hold onto it. The batteries for it are the same
as for the M6 and a lot of Nikons, Pentaxes and other cameras.

Good shooting, I hope this helps.

p.s. In college and grad school, I put lots of film through my CLs
while on newspapers and doing special ceremonies like weddings and
baptisms. I don't presently use my hobby to supplement my income. I
worked in a camera store in the early eighties while in college and
was introduced to Leicas while working there.

How about a little help. It has been so long since I have replaced batteries
in either my CL or CLE that I don't know which type each uses. I understand
that the CLE ones are hard to get now.

So, would someone please tell me what battery(s) each camera uses and where I
can get them. Many thanks.

Boy, there there a lot of collectors on here....... are there any
photographers? That's not an idle question and I mean no insult. Actually,
it is a serious question, since I cannot tell from the questions or answers.
As a professional photographer for 35+ years, I would be interested knowing
who else is on here who makes photographs for a living.

Thanks, Fred Ward
