Pumpkin pies made out of garden-variety pumpkins taste terrible. US regulations for food names are very loose in squash, and almost all of the pumpkin sold to make pies is a form of squash. My one trip to India a few years ago (an extended business trip) was mostly a terrible experience (Hyderabad and Kanpur and Kharagpur were worse than awful; I enjoyed Kochi and Thrissur). But these pictures make me think about another visit. The low spot of my India trip was being detained by the Indian Army for 36 hours at the Hyderabad airport when I was trying to fly home on 8 November 2016 because I had an electronic boarding pass and they only knew how to cope with paper. I was that day unable to pay in rupees for a taxi to the airport because the currency I was holding had been demonetized. I eventually found a driver who would take me to the airport for ?100, but he was arrested just as I was getting out of his car and the police would not permit me to pay him. The high spot of my India trip was the food in Thrissur.
