My medical provider, Scripps Health (25 hospitals and clinics, 2500 doctors, a million patients) was offline for the entire month of May because of a ransomware attack that originated somewhere in a former Soviet republic. I had a colonoscopy scheduled for some time in the second week of May, but even if I had known when it was scheduled, they wouldn't have been able to perform it because their automated equipment was disabled. I had an annual ophthalmology appointment this morning and everything worked well (and the ophthalmologist said my eyes look healthy). I haven't used any other camera since then, except occasionally my iPhone. It is beyond fabulous in almost every way. I use it for portraits, travel pictures, random family snapshots, and ... well, I use it for everything. I have two very minor issues with it. The WiFi scheme for getting pictures out of it is really awful, but it does work. And I often accidentally move the focus point around by hitting the up/down/left/right buttons unintentionally. So I always check the location of the focus point before I take a picture. On 2021-06-12 08:57, Howard L Ritter Jr via LUG wrote: > Looking for LUGgers? opinions/experience with the Q2. In general, too much weather. After the next one, maybe you could point the camera down instead of up, and show the flooding. I remember when I was stationed in Houston in the late 1990s one of my co-workers told me that when it rained there you had to wait for the water to evaporate because the terrain was so flat rainwater couldn't flow anywhere. They are all much older than > the crews that fly them. My very first job after finishing graduate school was helping devise a way to manufacture retro electronic replacement parts for B-52s. B-52s were built using components that were state of the art at the time, but haven't been manufactured in many decades. The SAC had a large stash of replacement electronic parts in salt caves in Utah, but those were projected to be depleted by 2000 or so. There were studies about re-engineering the avionics, but they concluded that would be require too much testing, so launched a program to recover the ability to manufacture old parts. My personal involvement was in the remanufacture of a chip first sold in 1969 but available to Boeing for B-52 upgrades in 1968, the Intel 1101 SRAM. We sort of succeeded, but before long the machines involved in the manufacturing process were themselves obsolete and unmaintainable, and the Air Force decided to do it some other way. I was reminded of a science fiction story from my youth in which there was a battle between an army with jet airplanes and an army with pikes and poison darts. Then I was no longer able to buy mercury batteries for my Rollei 35; the problem had hit close to home. The Blurb book creation software says that the 2020 yearbook does not have enough pages to permit text on the spine of a soft cover book. So either I keep adding blank pages to it until it allows text, or I just go with the version that does not have text on the spine.
