LUG Party 2010 27 August 2010 at 3:00pm

What:

Backyard party for Leica Users Group people who might be in the area. Past, present, and future subscribers and their guests are all welcome. If you think you're likely to attend, please let me know by email to reid@leica-users.org so that I can better plan food and beverages.

When:

Friday, 27 August 2010, 3:00 pm until we're done.

Where:

1995 Waverley Street, Palo Alto, CA 94301 USA
+1 650 856-3832 if you get lost

Why:

Marty and Anita Deveney (normally of Adelaide, Australia) are going to be in my part of the world in late August.

In celebration of that, and of anything else that might need to be celebrated.

Food and drink:

I will provide basic American afternoon-party food, such as sandwiches, hummus, cheese, fruit, bread, , etc. And basic American summer-party drink, which is local microbrew beer, California wine, good-quality non-alcoholic beverages, and water American Style (with vast amounts of ice). Stanford University used to issue student-party guidelines requiring EANAB (Equally Attractive Non Alcoholic Beverages).

If you are in the mood to bring some food or drink to share, please do.

Despite the presence of Australian visitors, I shan't put any shrimp on the barbie.

I understand the concept of being vegetarian and will provide adequate vegetarian food. If you are vegan or arcturan or some such, you'd better bring your own food or eat before you arrive.

Amenities:

I have a swimming pool and plenty of pool towels. Be warned that if you climb, jump, or fall into the pool, there will probably be hundreds of photographs taken of you. Neither Jim Shulman nor Harvey Arche is likely to be there, so you're not in great danger.

Directions:

Here is a map. This is the suburbs, so you should be able to find a place to park nearby.

My house is 850 meters from the California Avenue train station, and here are walking directions from the train station to my house. There's an underpass ("subway") to take you to the other side of the tracks; it's not marked as such on the map.

Nearby attractions:

I live 1 or 2 km from Keeble and Shuchat (depending on whether you walk or drive). Also nearby, for the less camera-minded, are Stanford University, the original Gordon Biersch microbrewery, Steve Jobs' house, and the original Hewlett Packard building.
