All the neighbouring houses had Ukrainian flags and banners flying from them. There were a small group of protestors across the road from the well protected gate, and they were quiet and restrained, but became jovial when they saw my camera. The paint daubed gate was guarded by a Garda patrol car with two Garda? in it, as it has been rammed before. There was a large back up Garda command and control van behind a wall to the rear of the protestors. While I was there, a female Garda, taking instructions, got out of the patrol car and moved closer to the gate. The protestors tensed themselves and became more serious. Then the Garda swiftly opened the barricade as an anonymous black Mercedes swept up quickly and headed inside to a strident chorus of the loudest and finest accusatory foul language and gestures that I have heard and seen for some time. As the car vanished into the vipers' nest, the protestors subsided, and I waved goodbye and headed back to my parked car. Close to it, there was another car, quite obviously owned by one of the protestors.
