While on several trails in national parks I noticed a significant amount of downed trees and brush. With the concern about forest fires it seems that there should be a better compromise between fuel for devastating fires and decaying logs as a source of nutrients and habitat. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/don_dory_gmail_com/Tuesday+Trees/fuel+for+fires.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/don_dory_gmail_com/Tuesday+Trees/nurse+logs+or+fuel.jpg.html After a fire or other natural event the forest renews at once.
