In the warm parts of California, such as where I live now, Pyracantha
bushes are deadly to birds. The berries ferment in the sun, the birds
eat them and get drunk, then fall on the ground and are hit by cars or
eaten by predators. A few weeks ago I was out for a walk with my dog and
passed a Pyracantha bush with half a dozen unconscious birds on the
ground nearby.
