The rehearsal did not go well. At one point, the libretto called for the sound of a gunshot offstage. The stage hands did not have a blank gun for the rehearsal, so they simulated the gunshot by slamming a two-by-four on the stage floor. The director was not happy. ?Where?s the gunshot?? he demanded. An apologetic stagehand replied, ?We don?t have a gun.? ?Well,? the director huffed, ?there certainly was a gun in Dallas!? http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Bill1941/RETROSPECT/The+Seagull_+Houston+Grand+Opera_March_+1974+___+01459.jpg.html ?Bill
