most are, but NC?s Coastal Plain is all old ocean bottom

my house is is on pilings wheich get their stability from the shell bed 
about 8-10 feet down. that?s where the fossil bed lies

the mine is a huge open pit about 90-100 ft deepnear the mough of the 
Pamlico River
