Aeschylus, the father of Greek tragedy, premiered "The Women of Aetna" here, and also staged a production of "The Persians" in the 470s BCE.? It was hard to believe that I was standing on the same stones.? I felt a similar "sense of presence" when I stood in Mozart's apartment in Vienna. But Mozart lived in that apartment only 240 years ago.? The theater is 10 times older. Wow. <https://www.flickr.com/photos/24844563 at N04/45068676245/in/dateposted-public/> Behind the semi-circular stage, you can still see holes in the stones where stage machinery was once mounted.? "Deus ex machina," anyone? <https://www.flickr.com/photos/24844563 at N04/45068676145/in/dateposted-public/> The Ear of Dionysius, a cave with amazing acoustic properties. <https://www.flickr.com/photos/24844563 at N04/45068675975/in/dateposted-public/> Fountain of Diana, created c. 1906-7: <https://www.flickr.com/photos/24844563 at N04/45068675725/in/dateposted-public/> The Duomo, photobombed by a local: <https://www.flickr.com/photos/24844563 at N04/45068675865/in/dateposted-public/> Olympus E-M5 and Panasonic 20/1.7.?
