These four were taken during the working day. I walked from my hotel to the conference venue, around 1.5 km and a pleasant walk in the morning. But first I stopped to light a candle for my mother in the Orthodox church next to my hotel. As is apparent from the scarcity of chairs/pews, during Orthodox services the congregation stands: https://www.greatpix.eu/All/Picture-A-Day/i-jSdGM24/A I then spent all day in a conference room at the National Palace of Culture. Afterwards, I photographed this scene on the square outside. Boys will be boys: https://www.greatpix.eu/All/Picture-A-Day/i-FM75VwB/A It was close to 30C and humid, and I was wearing a suit, so rather than walking back to the hotel, I took the metro, just one stop. When I got off at Serdika, the main station in the Sofia metro system (because the two metro lines built so far cross here), I photographed the afternoon crowd. And then a girl on the edge of frame turned to me and smiled. She is out of focus, and the picture is technically deficient, but I still like it: https://www.greatpix.eu/All/Picture-A-Day/i-nPrNhWz/A And then a picture that made me sad and maybe less sad at the same time. When I was in Sofia in February, I noticed a poor homeless dog outside the Serdika metro station, looking around. It was cold and I felt so sorry for the poor creature, but what could I do? The next day I noticed that the dog was sleeping inside the station, in a quiet corner next to a pharmacy, and there was a bowl of water?so clearly someone there was looking after it. And today, I saw the same dog sleeping in exactly the same spot: https://www.greatpix.eu/All/Picture-A-Day/i-Thn5PcZ/A I wish I could take him with me to Alicante when I go home tomorrow very early in the morning?but of course I can?t. At least there are some good people at this metro station, evidently.
