Subject: [Leica] Lightweight birder compact options

One of my cousins rang me to ask whether I knew of any compact camera 
with a good built in zoom suitable for bird photography. He's not as 
nimble as he used to be and is going on a holiday with a couple of trips 
to see the bird life, so he would like something as light as possible. 
Not being a birding expert, I'm asking opinions here.
