There are stories about long distance hikers that want the absolute least
amount of weight to carry....

Some ideas I heard about....
Cut off the handles of your toothbrushes.... you don?t NEED long handles to
brush... save maybe .1 ounce. Do THAT 160 times and you save a pound.
You COULD wear the same underwear 4 times.... use your imagination......
You COULD SHARE underwear.... I don?t want to think about this idea at
all.....
Carry nothing you can buy there or along the way to there.
When dirty and wet, apparently WOOL Long Johns do not smell as badly as
synthetic.
Carry a Cell phone and ditch the Leica. Less weight..... ( and totally
thought up by a non-photographer)
Monopods are lighter than tripods..... But not as stable for long
exposures.....
I bought a light weight Tripod ( Carbon Fiber from China.) Cost was about
$125, weight WITH ARCA compatible QR , and ball joint is 3.3 pounds. It is
not a tripod that will last a lifetime, but it is cheap and light.....
What about a Fuji X series camera as a backup? Lighter than an M, can use
all the lenses you have with adapters....

And, from my Boy Scout father's days..... You do NOT take stuff out of a bag
if you are trying to lower the weight. You empty the bag, and only PUT IN
what you NEED.

In truth, some of these ideas ARE bizarre... but all have an element of
helpfulness....

Worth exactly what you paid for this advice......

I'm going to pack my camera backpack, weigh it, and start taking things out
;-)
