Rio was hosting the Olympics at that time, so we decided to go via Sao Paulo, a decision made easy by the fact that a very good friend of mine, Armando Bruck, a regular street photography cohort in Chennai over the preceding three years, had relocated to his home town of Sao Paulo. In fact it was the best decision we made, because Armando, being a local, took us to various nooks and corners of Sao Paulo, something we would not have dared to do by ourselves, given the city's fearsome reputation of being one of the most dangerous cities in the world.
