The "outbuilding" at Whitby Abbey was, by the way, the mansion and banqueting hall of Lord Cholmley. Built in 1672, it lost much of its roof in a storm in 1790 and was partly demolished. In 1866 supporting arches were installed. It was taken in hand by the Ministry of Works (now National Heritage) who did further structural repairs to preserve it and it finally opened as a museum, shop and visitor information centre in 2002. Cheers, and thanks for posting them Douglas On 02.02.2016 03:44, Alan Magayne-Roshak wrote: > I posted 26 more photos from my trip to England and Scotland in 1984. > > Some favorites: > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840915_MR_UK_2_59A.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840915_MR_UK_2_53.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840915_MR_UK_2_54A.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840911_MR_UK_1_52.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840911_MR_UK_1_122.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840912_MR_UK_1_116.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840912_MR_UK_4.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840910_MR_UK_1_131.jpg.html > < > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Travel/Britain/19840909_MR_UK_3_18BW.jpg.html > All scanned from Kodachrome 64.
