The Flash Color Receptor allows you to read the color temperature of strobe when it fires. Which will, of course vary, depending on reflector, soft box, bounce, etc. Without the Flash Color Receptor you can read the ambient light sources. And yes. Some of the cross over "issues" you're seeing and the difficulty of scanning such issues; arises when you have complementary light colors. When you have Cyan and Magenta casts; you cannot correct the Magenta without increasing the Cyan; and you cannot correct the Cyan without increasing the Magenta.
