I am running an external HDD, size, name, etc do not matter (for the purposes of what my conclusion is). My External HDD is USB 3.0, with downward compatible to USB2.0. My new card is USB 3.0 I ran the HDD with a standard 2.0 cable.. I then tried out a USB3.0 Cable. it has BLUE ENDS in the connector area The USB 3.0 cable was TWICE as fast as the USB2.0 Cable using the same port, HDD, test, etc. Message: If you get or use a USB3.0 external HDD, use the USB3.0 cable to get maximum speed from the combination... Do NOT use a USB2.0 cable, with the white interior. You will not get the same speed. Obviously, at least I find it obvious, you must also plug the 3.0 HDD into a 3.0 Capable socket on your computer.
