I visited the Krak on a two-week car trip through Syria, Jordan, and Israel in 1979 while I was stationed in Adana, Turkey, with the Air Force. Syria was only a few hours' drive from Incirlik Air Base and was a favorite weekend destination, especially the great covered souk in the city of Aleppo. Favorite accommodation there: the Hotel Baron, favored also by a minor British historical figure of 100 years ago, one T. E. Lawrence. Strange to think that there was a time within recent decades when active-duty American military personnel could drive up to the Syrian border on vacation and gain entry. Happier times indeed. I'll post a few views of Aleppo tonight. A few photos of the Krak, 26 years before your view: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/hlritter/Krak/ Nikon, Kodachrome, Nikon Super Coolscan 5000. Comparing your shot and mine, I'm struck by how superior technically the image from even 10-year-old, less than FF digital technology is. ?howard On Feb 21, 2014, at 10:31 AM, Tina Manley <images at comporium.net> wrote: > PESO: > > The view from a medieval crusaders' castle in Syria: > > http://www.pbase.com/tinamanley/image/154567951 > > C&C greatly appreciated. > > Tina
