It is so called because Iron Pyrite, otherwise known as Fool's Gold is found there. Unfortunately, it was another heavily overcast and dreary day, with intermittent light rain, with fairly poor light. Even that however could not detract from the majestic beauty of the place with a reasonable size King Penguin colony: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3753.jpg.html There were penguins doing everything: Moulting (you can see a small Gentoo Penguin colony as well, in the Tussock Grass in the left bottom of the frame): http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3775.jpg.html Incubation: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3710.jpg.html Seduction: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3694.jpg.html In between the King Penguins were other wildlife/birds: Preening Fur Seals: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3835.jpg.html Posturing Fur Seals: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3739.jpg.html Giant Petrels waiting for a penguin slip-up: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3692.jpg.html Elephant Seals: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/antarctica/Antarctica_20140113_3702.jpg.html The real stars of this place were the Elephant Seals, hundreds of juvenile males, more of these in the next post. Please see LARGE Comments and criticism, as ever, welcome Cheers Jayanand
