Lluis, and any other Luggers in Spain,
Last night's economic news on TV revealed that the national unemployment
rate in Spain was over 25% and the unemployment rate of recent college
graduates was over 60%. These are astounding figures. I was a child during
the US depression when the unemployment rate hovered at 25% and things were
pretty bad. The TV program interviewed a number of recent college graduates
and many had chosen to emigrate to portions of the world where they could
use their newly learned skills. Many were headed to Latin America.

My question for those on the scene is: Are things really as bad as they are
described? Is it hype to make Americans less disturbed by the shortage of
jobs here despite strong signs of economic recovery? The reason I'm
directing this question to Lluis is that, in his excellent photographs, I
see a lot of people wandering the streets of Barcelona apparently without
anything to do.
