I have family with 5 miles of Concord.  Just outside Concord, Mt. Diablo in 
the spring is great (and a bike ride down from the summit is 30 minutes of 
hair-raising awesomeness; be sure your tires & brakes are in good 
condition).  Yosemite in March will be the tail end of winter.  There's 
never a bad time to visit Yosemite.
