Often they had numerous features that Leica didn't such as built-in light meters, auto exposure and in the later years auto focus. All substantially less expensive than a Leica, all with decent lenses that made photos that couldn't be distinguished from a photo made with a Leica lens with typical indifferent processing (equivalent to in-camera .jpgs).
