I didn't know this until I opened my newspaper this morning, but yesterday,

Milwaukee was the birthplace of the QWERTY keyboard, invented by Christopher
Latham Sholes, editor at the forerunner of the paper I read.

I was fascinated as a kid by an ancient Underwood machine that my family
had. All of the mechanical parts were visible, and I loved playing with it.

I'm still sad my mother discarded it after I left home and got married.
