Yes there are places when one wants absolute control as you say: "There are places where manual is preferable (e.g. panoramic shots, backlighting) <<<<<<<< I beleive it's to each his own in how one uses their cameras. As I said before when shooting the book .... "WOMEN IN MEDICINE. A CELEBRATION OF THEIR WORK!" 500 rolls of T-MAX 400 RATED AT ASA 800! I never lost a frame from exposure regardless of lighting and cameras reacting to light conditions! Just think about the wild and crazy lighting in many operating rooms and hospital conditions!
