In the first place I seldom have the lens fully open. The reason is that the EVF is brilliant even in low light. Also the ISO performance of the new M is outstanding even at high ISO levels meaning that you can have relatively high shutter speeds even in low light to stop the action. As far as using the camera for action photos, I have found it to work very well but yes you must anticipate the action as there is a slight lag time when using the EVF but less than I expected. Also the shutter noise is very low, much quieter than the SLRs. I would challenge you doubters to go to a Leica dealer and try the camera with your great R glass. My favorite for night time action is the Summilux 80mm as I stated before but even the Summicron 50 1st generation is a surprise with its creamy smooth rendition. Here in Korea it is one of the favorite lens for my fellow Leica Club members www.leicaclub.net. The other lens that they like is the 2nd generation 19mm lens but I do not own that lens so I have no personal experience with it. I tend to use the M lens for the wide angle picts and the R glass for Macro and tele. I have been especially enjoying using my Apo-Tely R 3.4/180 and the Apo-R 2.8/280 for night photography. It certainly is a handful but the pictures are really superb when one braces the lens on a bean bag. To tell you the truth I never thought of using the camera for " for slow, methodical photography, such as landscapes". This camera has opened a whole new world for using those superb R lens`and for me, at least, it is not that world!. , The LUG site has a section where it highlites the use of R lens on the new M. Also there are many photos on the following facebook site. This is where I post my pictures as it automatically resizes the photos for posting so file size is no issue. the site is Leica M Type 240 User Group (Leica M10). Realize that most of the photos are with M lens but there are many with R glass also including mine. I have no argument with the fact that the M (t240) takes superb photos with R glass... Sod did my Canon and Olympus bodies. But none of them offer an automatic diaphragm... which for me, is essential. It strikes me that the M(T240) + finder + R->M adapter will work rather well, for slow, methodical photography, such as landscapes. But, I fail to see how it would work well in fast acting situations. For me, the lack of auto-diaphragm is a deal breaker - especially considering the cost, compared to other options that also do not offer auto-diaphragm. Just my 2 cents worth. David.
