He doesn't like the "original," French/European version of The Americans. He didn't want and doesn't like text opposite each picture. He calls it "stupid." 2. His American publisher wanted text, too. The Kerouac intro "didn't help," but he had to live with it to get it published. 3. Calling the book "The Americans" was a sad, unjust comment on the US at the time. Not clear whose idea the title was. Those of us living in the city regarded Kerouac/Ginsberg/Frank as a holy trinity. 4. Re NYC, "What a town." It's like hearing God grumble about creation.
