Agree that Leica is superior when compared in terms of technical
capabilities and performance when the lenses are used on their own and not
paired with the dedicated camera bodies.

"Giving Leicas a run for the money" means exactly that; value for money.
Don't expect Fuji X series lenses to perform as well on non-dedicated
bodies. Leicas will usually do better on other makers bodies save some
issues preventing certain lenses from being fitted. Of course the Fujis are
for cropped sensors.

The nearest competitor would be the Zeiss ZM series. Overall build quality
of the Cosina manufactured lenses is inferior to those by Leica. The knob of
the focusing ring irritates me till no end while Leicas are so much nicer to
use.

While Leicas cost a great deal more, the lenses do not drop in value over a
long period for most except the Summarits. And R lenses are climbing slowly
but surely upwards since the M 240 was announced.

Not many can afford to pay nor would want to pay for Leicas if others like
the Fuji do almost as great a job. And Leicas don't AF! Except for the
Digiluxes..
When it gets dark, the Fuji X bodies trounces the M8/9 in terms of ease of
use.

Fuji lenses have not been labelled as the "poor man's Leica" for no good
reason. Check out their medium format lenses too. The GX680 series as well
as the GA645s, GF690s paired with their fixed lenses for the later two
series are simply wonderful. Super sharp on film. Beautiful and natural
colours. The GF690 if I recall correctly is often referred as the Texan
Leica!

So it's "horses for courses" really.

Best,
