Activity Monitor is an Apple applicatuon normally kept in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder, if you haven't used it. Click on the Disk Activity button and you will get a graph and readout of read and write speed. I have just done two time machine backups, one of my iMac to a connected USB 2.0 drive, the write speed was between 3 and 29 Mb/sec for a 2Gb backup. Then I did my Macbook to a wifi connected time machine, here the odd peaks were about 17 Mb/sec but a lot of the time much less. With firewire directly connected to the computer you should see speeds higher than USB, so I would expect the write speed to be above 30Mb/sec a lot of the time. Also have a look at Time Machine Preferences in the System Preferences to see if the backup is being verified first. Verifying seems to take a looooooooong time. cheers, Frank >________________________________ > From: Gerry Walden <gerry.walden at me.com> >To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org> >Sent: Thursday, 13 December 2012, 18:19 >Subject: Re: [Leica] OT - Time Machine problems > >Tarek > >I am on Firewire 800.
