Subject: [Leica] Sensor differences - this time I really noticed them

We spent three great days in Yosemite (any day in Yosemite is great, just so
you know). The weather was uniformly overcast/rainy. I shot with three
cameras: Leica M8, Canon 1Ds MkII, and the Sony NEX-7.

When I imported all the images I chose to bring them in uniformly into
Lightroom as DNGs, something I haven't done before.

When I reviewed them I was amazed at the difference between the color
quality of the M8 compared to either of the other two cameras. Really, I was
astonished that I could so easily pick out the Leica image every time.

But what I cannot do is tell you exactly what I'm reacting to - but clearly
the M8 made images that match what I was seeing - or at least how I recalled
what I had been seeing. But I cannot give a qualitative measure for the
difference or say why the camera's sensor does such a good job.

I'd welcome someone who can talk to the differences.

I do know that in the subdued autumn light and color pallet the differences
are enough for my wife to see them.

This informs me: save for the new M. I like the idea of being able to use R
lenses on it in the same way I do with the NEX7. I like the live precision
focusing that the Sony offers, especially for macro work. I know that the
camera I like to shoot with the most is the M8.

Sigh.

Anyway, thanks for listening.

I'll have some work to share later.
