It needs to be light. It must be sharp. So I tried out my 35 Summicron V3, and my 35 Summilux pre-ASPH. Both were a bit soft, with the Summilux being very very soft. Testing was done wide open, as the purpose of this lens is to use it in only low light. Otherwise my Tri Elmar will handle the job admirably. I was not happy with the results of the Summilux, and the Summicron gets me light weight, but is not razor edge sharp either. I went out and got a 40mm Nokton F1.4, MC. I figured the weight was right, the aperture was right, and the cost was right. The LUG told me I would not be happy with this lens, for a lot of reasons...mostly to do with focus shifts at changing aperture. I figured that I was only going to use it at F1.4 so I was immune. Hah. I just finished testing the 40 Nokton.. It was back focused on my M8, it had funny blue fringes on the pure black and pure white elements ( in the middle of the frame), and was softer than the Summicron. Not my cuppa... What do you call the funny blue fringes? My 35 ASPH Summilux may not be light (130 grams more than a non ASPH Summilux) , but so far, it is winning on all counts. ALL.
