[Leica] Mark, your new NEC screen

My MacBook Pro runs across an external monitor as well as internal if I use 
it on-site. You would have to make the external monitor the main one so as 
to get the taskbar and dock move over to it, however I can see no reason to 
not want the laptop display as well as I have used multiple displays for 
well over a decade ;-)

We only have a Mac Pro desktop. The only Mac laptop I have is an ancient G4
so I don't know whether it supposes to work that way or not, but on Windows
laptops, you have the option of turning off the builtin screen and in fact,
that's the default behavior when you plug in an external monitor.
