The advantage of having Leica do the coding, is that for a single fee, ( I
was quoted $225 for a 75 Summilux)  they change the mount and then accurize
the lens for the M8/9.

If you will, the coding is secondary to the focus checking and accuracy.....

The M9 can manually set for that lens without coding. If I still used a
Noctilux, I think I would get it coded, since the M9 uses code for more than
data reporting.
