In the 90's a rich guy could go out and buy a Hasselblad. Shoot a roll. Bring it to the drug store (Walgreens maybe) and get back his snap shots two days later. The commitment would not really change just the price of the camera. Few not think anything of this. Bring it to a pro lab and get a contact sheet? Have a custom print made? That cost money! That takes extra time! Now you can shoot jpegs but there really is much more hands on stuff you have to do with digital. People don't like that. They want to play with cameras not with photography.
