I've always heard the term macro photography used to infer that
the subject on the film/sensor is close to life size + or -
(and requires lenses corrected for that working distance
as well as some form of "bellows [tube] factor")

and micro referring 1:1 and beyond

and closeup more generally referring to anything from 1:5 and closer
except in hollywood
where it always meant nearly filling the screen with the actor's head

obviously the terms are thrown about liberally these days
