My experience is that external drives (Mine are Seagate Go models) are FAR faster than twinkie drives, especially with large files or data dumps.? Loading a 4 gig drive takes about 12-15 minutes if not more; loading 4 gigs on an HD takes maybe 3. > > But somewhere I have been told to put the images on the external drive and > the catalog (which includes the database and the information on edits etc) > on the internal drive.? Bad advice?? You're putting the whole megilah on > the > external drive? That way all I have to do is plug the external into the main computer and run the export.? (It's possible I could simply copy all the files using Windows Explorer, but it's easier and sure to work if I use LR's export function, so...) I don't see any significant advantage to building the database on the laptop internal in the first place. I suppose it might be marginally faster to work on, but since the overlay and dbase files are actually very small, I think that'd be a minimal improvement and it'd be eaten up by the time on transfer. ?
