Those old lenses can be surprising. I like to fool around with odd ones too. Check out my 1870's era Darlot: <http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Gear/Darlot1_AMR.jpg.html> Wide open, it has an interesting signature, like a tunnel: <http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Trees/DTrunk_AMR.jpg.html> Stopped down to f/11, it sharpens up: <http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Alan+Magayne-Roshak/Portraits/PeterBike_AMR.jpg.html> This lens has 49mm filter threads (!) so it fits on a Pentax bellows with a reverse adapter. I have some old negatives made with just the front elements, to give a diffused image.
