Pasvorn,

Thanks for looking!  To answer your question about lighting, it's two 
strobes at 
45 degree angles to the paintings, each reflecting its light from an 
umbrella.

http://www.ancientmoney.org/thangka.html shows one of umbrellas, the other 
is 
outside of the frame.
