Hi David,
Thank you Good Sir! Actually I liked the photograph in how the subject 
popped off the page. I suppose as you say, " A touch of over sharpening may 
have created the edge sharpness/contrast kind of effect that I questioned.

Don't stop doing it as I think there will be situations that it will create 
a touh of magic making a very effective photograph.
