You may be quite surprised at the ease (though it does take a little bit of practice). In terms of practice I actually play with the combo off the camera. Nice light viewing device - actually. A couple extension tubes and you have a little microscope or macroscope. I find the smoke stack viewer, with it's focusing eye piece, easier and more accurate, than the eye level finder. It may even be slightly brighter (without the prism). With macro work, once I've locked in the magnification I want, it's my movement toward or away from the subject, which achieves (or misses) the focus, as well as the composition; even when using a tripod.
