When I was living in the UK, not so long ago, eating beef on the bone was prohibited because of the danger of Mad Cow disease and most lamb and mutton was imported from NZ because of the presence of scrapie in local flocks. There was also Frankenfood legislation pending against ANY genetically modified crops. It seems that EU consumers are easily spooked and governments are extremely protective of local farmers.
