The site was originally identified by Juan Bautista de Anza, an explorer of Nueva Espa?a and Governor of New Mexico for the Spanish Empire. The soldiers and colonists - "Los Californianos" - who settled here were led by Jos? Joaqu?n Moraga. The families of this expedition, along with settlers from Monterey and some later arrivals, established the Rancho culture that dominated California life for the next 80 years. I posted a few snapshots from this year's celebration at http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/OBRYK/LosCalifornianos/ . Leica M8, Elmarit 24mm. Cs&Cs will be cheerfully considered. Oliver
