There are a variety of cycling mailing lists around.

For bike touring, you can try 
<http://www.phred.org/mailman/listinfo/touring> where the tone is normally 
quite civil. The host <http://www.bikelist.org/> also hosts a few other 
bike-related mailing lists.

There is also <http://www.bikeforums.net/> which is a web forum with many 
sub-forum, not a mailing list.
