BTW, a few years ago, when they were building Armstrong Park, adjacent to the French Quarter in New Orleans, a major anthropological project was the digging up of former privy sites. It seems that folks not only dump human wastes down the hole, they drop broken dishes, old knives, all sorts of stuff.
